Foundations of Magick: Fire

Welcome to the month of transition.

Fire teaches us about alchemy and spirit and opens up our wholeness. Its very essence is that of change, devouring and transmutation. Fire alters cellular structure. Fire creates and destroys. This month, we honor the lessons of fire with respect and gratitude. We reflect on our journey over the past three months, and make physical offerings of thanks out on the land.

We rest in the stillness that is constant motion, and we feel the wheel turn again as the bright warmth of fire gives way to the infinite depths of water. Feel into the medicine of boundaries.

Handout. Since there is not a High Holy Day this month, our focus turns to deeper practices directly with our main teacher, the element of fire itself.

Recipe. Sip on some yarrow tea prior to divination to avoid distractions or assist in focus. Yarrow can create bridges for psychic communication with loved ones who are far away, and it can also act as a diplomatic facilitator of sorts when it comes to having challenging conversations. It is also said that yarrow can help you and your loved ones see things from each others' point of view—great to have on hand for challenging disagreements.

Take a journey into the realm of fire.

Holly Hamilton guides us on a journey into the heart of fire realm, the temple of fire. To prepare for this 20-minute meditation, sit or lie comfortably near your altar or in a private space outside. Bring a candle if possible, and have your pen and journal ready to record insights after.

This is the time to spend time building safe fires, gazing into fire, feeling the fire in the sun, and even trying your hand at Flame Bending. We have included brief instructions below.
